“Having NO dog handling experience I was hesitant to take on the task of training a dog to retrieve sheds. My fear was that my dog would fail, not due to lack of natural ability but, rather, due to a lack of quality training from me, the handler. Now, at only 11 months old, Boone, my lab, will actively hunt sheds with enthusiasm. His passion for sheds and his progression toward becoming a rock steady dog is rewarding for me to see. If I accidentally leave an antler or the antler dummy laying around Boone is quick to bring it to me with his tail wagging eager to show off his find or lure me out for another training session.
I also had the privilege to attend Jeremy’s shed dog training workshop this past April. The workshop was set in the bluff country of Buffalo County, Wisconsin. We started the day reviewing basic obedience and worked towards more advance handling drills. Jeremy was quick to tailor the course to the needs of our class and spend extra time in areas my dog needed help with. I found his positive approach toward dog handling suited my dog’s personality very well. The amount we learned and the confidence my dog gained became evident as the day progressed. I would recommend Jeremy’s workshop to anyone aspiring to train a dog to shed hunt!
