A Retriever Training Must: They Key To Unlocking the Retrieve | Ep: #20

In this episode, we are answering questions on retriever training. We start out by discussing takeaways from this year’s workshops, and common themes among the handlers and dogs that attended.  One of these theme that was very evident was the need for hold conditioning.

Many dogs did not have the finished retrieve that we are looking to get in our retriever training. Chomping on the bumper, dropping short, victory laps, unwillingness to bring bumpers to hand, and “switching” (dropping one bumper mid retrieve to pick up another) are all symptoms of a dog that is in need of hold conditioning. Hold conditioning fixes all these problems, and as we like to say, “is the key to unlocking the retrieve.” We have a ton of information and content on how, when, and where to complete hold conditioning with your own dog such as the DogBoneHunter YouTube page, our Facebook, and these podcasts!

When to Start With Your Puppy | Ep: #11

When to start with your puppy, a very common mistake new dog owners and handlers make. As a society, we lack patience, and this directly correlates to our dog training efforts. Knowing what to expect and when to start with your puppy is a crucial element in the training process. It is much easier to train good habits in to your dog than to try and train out bad habits.  In this episode, Jeremy focuses once again on questions sent in from all of you! This weeks questions consist of more puppy stuff, and Jeremy’s take on electric fences. Our podcast as of late is focused on your questions so don’t be afraid to ask yours and get it answered!
